Sheep Wormer To Worm Out The Worms!

Sheep graze in open pastures and thus are susceptible to various worms and parasites that are present in the pastures. These worms breed in the pastures and never die on being ingested by the animals. Rather they make their homes in their stomachs and make the host animal sick by sucking onto its nutrition. Most of these worms are only diagnosed when they have played havoc with the sheep's health, and many a times this is very late for the sheep. There have been horror stories how some sheep suddenly started vomiting and felt weak and were dead in a matter of hours, giving the farmer almost no time to do much.
Prevention is thus, always better than cure. You should not wait for your sheep to get sick to give her worm treatment, but follow preventive measures from before. One of the most important methods is the rotation of the pastures where the sheep graze. Sheep can be made to graze at different pastures so that they do not eat larvae of the worms and are thus saved from them. However, this method is laced with several problems such as concentrating the larvae of the worms in the small area of the pastures. This pasture rotation could also be similar to the life cycle of the worms and when the sheep comes back to its old pasture, it may just graze on pasture reeking with full-grown infectious larva!
The most important measure is preventive de-worming using sheep wormers. A sheep wormer is basically a medicinal solution that removes worms from the sheep's body which it catches while grazing. It catches the worms early enough for them to do any serious damage to the sheep.
Sheep wormers should be used periodically else they lose their effect. Worms keep coming back and hence sheep need to be cleaned at frequent intervals. There are many types of worms that attack sheep hence a wormer which kills many worms is best suited. Also, more focused de-worming is necessary in hot and humid weather than the dry ones as worms grow more in such seasons.
One should be careful about the resistance that the sheep may develop because of the overuse of sheep wormers. Resistance means that the sheep worms may no longer react to the previous similar dosage of the wormer. To prevent this from happening one should try different sheep wormers over their sheep so that the worms do not develop resistance. One sure method to check the resistance of the worm is to check the faeces of the sheep periodically. The presence of the number of worms if any can tell you if your present wormer is working or not.
